1 dead, 2 critically injured in rollover truck crash on I-10 in Chambers Co.

CHAMBERS CO., TX – One person is dead and two others are critically injured following a rollover truck crash that shut down traffic on a portion of I-10 just east of Houston last Thursday.

The deceased has been identified only as a 75-year-old man from Louisiana.

ABC 13 reports that the accident happened at about 8 a.m. on March 19 in the eastbound lanes of I-10 just past the exit to TX-61. The 48-year-old driver of a semi-truck was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting several other drivers who had slowed because of a previous accident. Ten vehicles were ultimately involved in the chain-reaction crash, which injured at least seven.

The semi-truck was hauling oil, which subsequently spilled across the roadway. Hazmat teams responded to contain the mess.

Traffic backups stretched for miles in each direction, with the feeder roads providing little relief.

Representatives from the Texas Department of Public Safety say investigations are ongoing. We do not know if they have charged anyone in connection to the crash.

We will provide further updates if they become available.
