1 dead after truck driver loses control, collides with pickup in Austin Co.

BELLVILLE, TX – One person is dead following a truck accident caused by the commercial driver’s failure to control their speed and adjust for wet road conditions, authorities in Austin County say.

KBTX  reports that the fatal accident took place on TX-36 near Loop 497, between Bellville and Brenham, at around 8:30 a.m. on April 20.

Initial investigations suggest that the driver of a 2026 Freightliner truck-tractor hauling a utility trailer was traveling too fast for wet road conditions. He lost control of the southbound vehicle, which hydroplaned and then entered the northbound lanes. The truck then collided with a Ford F-350.

The force of the impact decoupled the trailer, which overturned on top of the pickup.

Authorities declared the Ford’s driver dead at the scene. They identified him as Curtis Allen Ford, a 69-year-old resident of Bellville.

The semi’s driver was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham for treatment. He has been identified as 35-year-old Ernest V. Nduwamungu of Jacksonville, FL.

We do not know whether Nduwamungu will face criminal charges at this time.
